Electric Vans Coming Soon

So far in the media we have heard only of first successful attempts to create, produce and roll out to the market electric cars. Now the same news starts to emerge in the van market. Modec, the British manufacturer of electric commercial vehicles, and Navistar International Corporation, a truck manufacturer based in the United States, are at the point of finalising a joint venture; the objective of which is making an electric van. The American Navistar has been recently awarded a grant in the amount of 39 million dollars which will be used to accelerate production of the electric vehicle. The deal assumes that a Navistar-Modec joint venture will produce and sell electric commercial vehicles in North, Central and South America. The new van is going to be a zero emission, all-electric delivery vehicle that would primarily be used for urban-suburban transportation. This seems to be the ideal application for this commercial van. The British Modec vehicles are manufactured on the Isles and one of the production sites is the Coventry plant. Those petrol used vans are already used by companies such as FedEx and UPS as well as Tesco. The all-electric vehicle can be seen as a concrete example of what the business and the government can do and accomplish when the cooperation is successful. As a Modec’s spokesman stated – there are already some customers interested in acquiring those vans, with some of them being respected and well-recognised names.
